About Us
The Academy of Fighting Arts is a Christian Martial Arts school. This is reflected
in how we teach our classes. We keep some of the tradition of the Korean Martial
Arts, but without the influence of Eastern religion, mediation, etc.
We believe that character development is an integral part of martial arts training.
At no time are our religious beliefs forced on any student, however, we are happy
to answer any of the student's questions. For more information on what it means

We primarily teach traditional Korean martial arts, though we also offer No
Nonsense Self Defense, and Cardio Kickboxing classes. Our Traditional program
focuses on technique, forms, sparring, and street-applicable self-defense. We also
teach techniques from Judo, Boxing, etc. We believe total body fitness is important,
and we emphasize cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and strength training.
Our program is
not a "
McDojang", where a student moves through the
ranks like a fast food drive-through. Our belt requirements are skill-based, not
time-based like other schools. Therefore, students going through our traditional
program will not test for a black belt in 1 1/2 to 2 years - there are
no 5
year old black belts here!
All of our classes are 'open door'. Visitors may observe our classes without being
pressured to sign up. New students go through our Introductory program, with a new
session starting approximately every three weeks.

Our facility is one of the largest in the Kansas City area.
We offer locker rooms, spacious visitor seating, and even wireless internet so
parents can "multi-task" while watching their children's class.
The Academy of Fighting Arts has been in continuous operation in Lee's Summit, Missouri
since 1983. We are located at 825 NW Commerce Drive, just off Chipman road, and
near Gold's Gym. We are easily accessible from 291, 50, and I-470 highways

We do not require contracts from our students; fees are due on a month-to-month
basis. For those that wish to pay for longer periods of time, discounts are available.

The Academy of Fighting Arts has served Lee's Summit for over twenty-five years,
and has earned a reputation of excellent training for all ages. We believe
Tae Kwon Do can be beneficial to
everyone, regardless of age, or ability.
We have a history of physicians recommending our program for conditions such as
ADD, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, and Aspergers Syndrome (a mild form of autism). We have
also had some experience teaching students that were blind and deaf.
The combined experience of our black belt staff exceeds 150 years! The majority
of our instructors have completed college degree programs. Our master instructor's
degrees are in Behavioral Sciences, and he has specifically designed the curriculums
for the younger-age children (3-6 years).
We offer age-specific classes for kids from 3 -12 years old. While these classes
also teach values and fundamental martial arts principles, we mix in a healthy dose
