A Brief History of the
Academy of Fighting Arts

The Academy of Fighting Arts officially began its Lee's Summit history in 1983, with Dan Nicoll and Jeff Yeagley providing Christian Tae Kwon Do instruction. The Academy conducted its trademark “hard core” classes three days a week, and averaged 12-15 students. In 1985 the Academy moved to its first commercial location in downtown Lee's Summit. Over the years, the enrollment has grown, and the school has moved to various locations.

The business is now located in a spacious 6000 square foot facility, at 825 NW Commerce Dr.  Programs have expanded to also include cardio kickboxing, daytime classes, classes for homeschool students, strictly self defense classes, and classes specifically designed for the pre-school/kindergarten aged children. While enrollment has increased, there still remains that important “tight knit” family atmosphere that sets them apart.

Other schools may pride themselves on the quantity of Black Belts they produce, but at the Academy of Fighting Arts, it's the quality that counts. “We train harder – it's a tradition.” This has been their motto since 1983 and that standard of excellence will not be compromised.
