Wee Kicks
The Wee Kicks class is in response to requests for more exercise programs for the pre-school age child. This class is fast-paced with games and activities to keep the child's interest. It's never too early to begin to teach respect, discipline, and self-control. While this class is considered a martial arts class, the emphasis will be less on intense martial arts skills, and more on coordination and range of motion activities. This class will also help to identify those who may be ready for KID KICKS, the next stage of martial arts training.
Kid Kicks
This program is specifically designed for the learning abilities, and attention span of the younger student. The class is fast-paced to keep things interesting. The children learn fundamentals of Tae Kwon Do in a fun and exciting way. We also incorporate games, which help teach the martial arts concepts. As a result, the kids have a lot of fun, while learning at the same time. The games are also used to reward positive behaviors, and to break up the session time.
The new student will start in the Intro class (duration one month). This is an orientation session, teaching the basic techniques and rules in preparation for our ongoing classes.
After completing Intro, the student will move through the three levels of our ongoing Kid Kicks program: beginners (Dragons), intermediate (Tigers), and advanced (Eagles). We use a system of black tips on the white belt to differentiate the classes, and to motivate the students. As students are promoted (at no charge), the tips are removed, and over time they progress through the three levels based on:
Since each child is unique, they will not necessarily advance at the same speed. At this age, rapid progression is not as important as setting the stage for future learning. The kids advance at the recommendation of the instructors. One of the foremost advantages of the martial arts over group sports is that the student is seen as an individual, each with their own special talents and needs. As such, each student will progress at their own pace, and not by comparison to others.
NOTE TO PARENTS:
Some of the basic concepts of the martial arts we strive to teach your children
are respect for parents, and other authority figures, discipline, and self-control.
This class has been designed for pre-school children who, in many cases, have not
yet been in any formal group setting. We find that once kids understand the rules,
and learn to focus and concentrate, they tend to do exceptionally well in academics,
and other organized sports.
